History

Ventura County was originally the home of the Chumash peoples, who actively traded with other Native American groups. Their legacy endures today, with well-preserved pictographs and reconstructed houses scattered all of over the region. Many places in Ventura County also have Chumash origins, such as Ojai (“moon”) and Simi Valley.

Today, Ventura County is divided into two parts: East and West. Both areas experienced their fair share of development. Other cities located within the county include:
