History

Santa Clarita use to be the stomping grounds of the Tataviam Indians during the pre-colonial period. In 1769, Spanish explorers part of the Portola expedition arrived in the area, naming the river Santa Clara after St. Clare. This paved the way for the valley to be known as Santa Clarita.

Massachusetts native Henry Mayo Newhall came to the area in 1825. He established the town of Newhall and authorized the Southern Pacific Company to build a railroad on his ranch, the Rancho San Francisco. This railroad connected Los Angeles to the San Francisco area.

In the 20th century, Santa Clarita gained fame by being the choice location and home of many Hollywood stars. The city was finally incorporated on December 15, 1987.

This line can be accessed via three stations located within the Santa Clarita (Via Princessa, Santa Clarita, and Newhall).

Several major thoroughfares are also accessible from Santa Clarita, such as Interstate 5, State Route 14, and State Route 126.
